Managing Structures Affected by Delayed Ettringite Formation and Alkali-Silica Reaction

Delayed Ettringite Formation (DEF) and Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) are significant durability issues that can lead to cracking that reduces the service life of concrete structures. While the diagnosis of issues in a structure does not necessarily mean immediate removal, replacement, or even repair is required, it is essential to conduct careful field and petrographic investigations of the structure to obtain an understanding of the severity of the problem.

DRP’s Dr. David Rothstein recently wrote an article the Spring 2019 edition of ASPIRE® discussing the process involved in understanding how to manage structures with DEF and ASR.
