Chunyu (Joe) Qiao, Ph.D., is the Chief Scientist of DRP, A Twining Company. He earned his bachelor degree in Geological Engineering and Ph.D. degree in Mineral Processing Engineering with focus on utilization of industrial by-products in cementitious materials. He has also gained a deep understanding on transport properties and durability of cementitious materials after years of Ph.D. and post-doctoral research in civil engineering. His education and research background equip him with a great skillset for troubleshooting performance and durability related issues on building materials including concrete, mortar, aggregate and etc.
Joe is a member of several professional organizations, such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM). He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles related to cementitious materials and presented his work in several international conferences. Since joining DRP, he has performed petrographic and chemical examinations on multiple projects in and out of the US. Joe has also helped DRP achieve the capabilities for chloride analysis per ASTM C1152 and ASTM C1218 and bulk electrical resistivity measurement per ASTM C1876.
Other than looking at concrete, Joe always enjoys exploring the cities and mountains with friends in Colorado.
